Mikkeler Milk Stout (6%)

Bottle. Black pour, brown head. Nice aroma of milky chocolate, cream and roasted malt. Taste of milk, cream, chocolate and roast. Quite sweet. Solid (www.ratebeer.com/beer/mikkeller-milk-stout/164152/).
jamestulloch (2851) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 14, 2016
Bottle. Black body with a thick tan head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of ash, charcoal and black pepper. Flavour of chocolate milkshake and salted dark chocolate. Medium body with a smooth, foamy mouthfeel. Light fizz. Nice beer, but the burnt, ashy notes are unusual for a Sweet Stout (www.ratebeer.com/beer/mikkeller-milk-stout/164152/).

Served from the 11.8 ounce bottle into a 9 ounce miniature wine glass at 37F.
Excellent lacing texture and color for a milk stout. Not quite pitch black, but the head retention is perfect and it has that really attractive slightly dark tint to it.
Nose aroma is a rosey floral, followed by a very nice balance of marris otter and specialty malts. There is some sort of flowery and carmely sucrose fermentable that is synonymous with the Mikkeller brand as the main component of this milk stout, and whatever it is, it's amazing in a stout. By far the most dialed in session stout recipe in the industry.
The aforementioned floral, caramel, marris maltiness in this stout is so well balanced. The most surprising aspect of this stout though is how well it holds up taste wise, to sitting on the shelf. Granted I didn't purchase a shelf turd, but many of these specialty Mikkeller stouts really age well in their miniscule 11.8 ounce bottles on store shelves, for one reason or another.
Mouthfeel here is superb. Certainly some oats or heavier grains like spelt to really capture a velvety palate explosion. This milk stout is like drinking gourmet liquid Milk Duds if such a thing existed.
So yeah, if you've ever experienced Milk Duds as a kid on Halloween, this is the adult liquified version.
If you have the extra $$ to splurge every so often, then any of these Mikkeller Stouts should fit the bill dependant upon the %ABV range you are looking for. I am really impressed by the marketing structure of these products, as well as the quality. Much better than Evil Twin, as if there was ever aNY comparison (www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/13307/81962/).
S: Woody. Roasted coffee.
T: Intense woody flavor. Roasted coffee. Mildly sourness. A little butter. Dry. Medium bitterness. Long and bitter finish.
M: Medium body. High carbonation.
O: Pretty nice low alcohol content stout. The flavor is solid and delicious (www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/13307/81962/).

Delicious milk stout. I would consider this a prototype for the style. Dark color with rich, creamy head which creates mysteriously shaped lace patches on the glass. Aroma is intoxicating with a gentle roastiness coupled with lactose sweetness. It actually smells like milk! Flavor is much the same with delicate roasted malt, perfectly balanced, creamy lactose. Suggests a white Russian flavor in the finish. Awesome stuff. So flavorful, savory, sweet and refreshing all at the same time (www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/13307/81962/).
