'Cat riding sheep' by Denise Warren

Katjelam is a formal brewing company, housed at the De Smeltkroes, Honigcomplex since september 2014 (http://katjelam.tumblr.com/).

They start thanks to their brewing-neighbours at Oersoep, the small-scale (500-750L./month) production of beer on their previous brewhouse, 2x50L.Speidels Braumeister (http://katjelam.tumblr.com/).

After stripping an old Honig-labroom, they constructed a fermentation room/office by choosing the reclaimed materials / as-few-money-as-possible road.... with a desk/small fermentation rack out of pallets. Finished prepping materials for our barrel-wall (~1500L.). They almost got all of the brewing equipment complete as well. Most of it is second-hand too (http://katjelam.tumblr.com/).

looking through the refractometer, also used to measure sugar-content, but more accurate/neater. it also feels more like an actual scientific tool (which makes katjelam excited of course ...this is what you see through the scope. one big bonus of this meter is that it auto-corrects for temperature, giving an even more accurate reading (http://katjelam.tumblr.com/).

Katjelam wouldn’t be called katjelam if they didn’t try to put a cat in every brewing pic.

the two electrical tanks for mashing/boiling katjelam acquired. they came in in a pretty sorry state, still have to give them a proper test run (and already looking towards bigger/other stuff) (http://katjelam.tumblr.com/).

Their first beer was bottled and ready in february 2014:

Katjelam made bread out of our spent brewer’s grains, the de-sugared barley malts used in brewing (http://katjelam.tumblr.com/).
