Black Damnation
This is the OG (original gangstah) of our Black Damnation series and the one that started it all. This beer is a blend of Struise Black Albert and De Molen Hel & Verdoemenis imperial stouts. Both beers on the very edge of darkness, of which the brewers' minds both sit on the verge of insanity.
Black Damnation is black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and boasts massive taste. This brew is the perfect marriage of the sweet, unxious flavors from Black Albert and the bitter charcoal and coffee profile from the Hel & Verdoemenis. Good luck finding some, the last batch was made in 2010!

(https://struise.com/bieren-beers/black-damnation-serie/black-damnation/)

Russian River Brewing Company, located north of San Francisco in Santa Rosa, California specializes in west coast style IPAs, Belgian style ales and barrel aged ales using wild yeast strains. Although they are recognized most for brewing Pliny The Elder and Pliny The Younger, currently the highest rated IPAs on Beer Advocate, Russian River have also been brewing up some award winning Belgian style ales. As Belgian strong pale ale, Damnation has won gold and silver medals at the Great American Brew Festival. The bottle re-fermented version is one of their three year round bottled ales and the easiest one to find.
Damnation pours a hazy golden color with a two finger foamy white head. The haze comes from the active yeast that finishes carbonating the beer and probably pushes the ABV past the labeled 7.75%. The head settles down after a few minutes leaving a bit of lacing as you go. As per the style, there is an abundance of carbonation in the beer – lots of tiny bubbles continuously flowing from the bottom of the glass. The aroma has all of the complexities you would expect from a Belgian style ale. Spice (think a mix of pepper and coriander), lemon zest and alcohol are the dominating aromas. I detected a note of another type of fruit, maybe some pineapple but the lemon seems to be dominating in the fruit side of the aroma. The yeast aroma is present but is light on the funkiness you get with the other Belgian styles.
Digging in, the front of your tongue is hit with the abundance of carbonation and the fruitiness detected on the nose. As the champagne-like carbonation dissipates mid tongue the spices come into play – the pepper mixed with coriander. As is traditional for the style, Damnation finishes dry with a big bready malt flavor, balancing between sweet and sour flavors (the hops playing their role), with lingering spice notes. The alcohol that is present on the nose is well hidden in the mouth feel – it drinks like a much lower ABV beer – but I find it lacking a touch of smoothness that would rate it higher.
Damnation has all the qualities of a fine Belgian ale but for me it is lacking somewhat in flavor and smoothness that make classic Belgian beers like La Chouffe and Duvel stand out in the Belgian strong pale ale category. I can tell from Damnation that Russian River know what they are doing in creating Belgian style ales and hopefully I will get the opportunity to try more from them in the future. Russian River distribution can be spotty but if there is a shop locally that carries their beers, give Damnation a try (www.beergeeknation.com/ryan/beer-geek-nation-beer-review-russian-river-damnation/).

Having tried Struise Black Damnation, and learning that there are now (or will soon be) around a dozen different versions.
The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban's mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filty rich in the nose and with massive taste.
Black Damnation is a blend with the use of Hel & Verdoemenis from Brouwerij De Molen. This is the first of the series.
50% of Black Albert was used with another 50% of H &V.
Black coloured beer with just a sliver of a dark tan head. Aroma is glorious & full of coffee, brown sugar, dark fruity chocolate. Flavours of H&V are quite evident, charcoal and mineral notes, chocolate, cocoa powder. Good coffee chocolate finish with good balancing bitterness and hops & sugar in the after taste.
Trying to find out what are the differences..
Black Damnation I - 12%ABV.
50% of Black Albert and 50% of H &V.
Black Damnation II Mocha Bomb - 12%ABV.
50% of Black Albert was used that matured for a while on whole coffee beans out of a craft Columbian coffee plantation. 25% of H &V was used that aged for 6 months on JD barrels. Another 25% of Cuvée Delphine was used.
Black Damnation III - Black Mes - 13%ABV.
III is yet another variation on Black Albert. 100% of Black Albert was used that matured for a while on Caol Ila barrels.
Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, peat, torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits and peatedness which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Artwork done by Struise.
Black Damnation IV Coffee Club - 13%ABV.
IV Coffee Club is 50% of Black Albert was used that matured for a while on whole coffee beans out of a craft Columbian coffee plantation. Then aged for 6 months on old rum barrels, with another 50% of H &V.
"Struise confirms that the development of Double Black 26% for more than 2 years under its wings and has already several times proposed it to the public in special beer festivals, jury's has tested the Double Black 26%, has not yet been commercialized to date. From mid year we think there change that. After 2 years development, we believe that our finished product and with dignity, it will join the public.
We achieve not only a beautiful head, our house yeast also provides a good balance carbon dioxide. In addition, the taste and aroma sensations unique to this beer and this was simply not matched by its leaders."
The Black Damnation V - Double Black with its 26% ABV now sits on the 9th place of the world's strongest beers.
Struise Black Damnation VI - Messy
COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Black Mess was processed the double icebock way to proceed to 39% of Abv. This ale still drinks as a real beer, containing carbonation and a nice rocky head, the alcohol is very well hidden.
Struise Black Damnation VII - Single Black
COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
IBU: 18 ABV: 2%!!! (http://thebeerinme.com/tbimplugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?10004)

Imperial Stout from the Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven, Netherlands. Bottled February 18, 2010. Batch #199 (cellarable for 25 years). Pours black with beautiful brown head. Aromatics of caramel and oak which the flavor also suggests on top of a sweet and boozy backfinish. Sweet mouthfeel along with heavy sediments at the bottom. Overall a good brew that is worth seeking out again! (http://thebeerauthority.com/2012/07/25/de-struise-black-damnation-tasting/)

Black Damnation– 13% ABV.
Finally the moment of truth has arrived! Black Damnation is a blend with the use of Hel & Verdoemenis from Brouwerij De Molen. This is the first of the series. Pours black with a beautiful brown head that lasts throughout very well. Aromas of figs, booze, roasted malt, and sweet chocolate. Flavor of black fig, brown sugar, and booze. Medium mouthfeel, some sediments lying at the bottom. Definitely good beer. (http://thebeerauthority.com/2012/07/25/de-struise-black-damnation-tasting/)

Black Damnation II Mocha Bomb– 12% ABV.
Black Damnation II is yet another blend with the use of Hel & Verdoemenis from Brouwerij De Molen. This time a level more complex than BD I. 50% of Black Albert was used that matured for a while on whole coffee beans out of a craft Columbian coffee plantation. 25% of H&V was used that aged for 6 months on JD barrels at Struise. Another 25% of Cuvée Delphine was used. Pours black with a beautiful dark foamy head. Smell of Mocha all the way along with some oak. Lots of mocha, cococa, chocolate, and wood in the flavor. Creamy mouthfeel and medium-bodied. Great shit here. (http://thebeerauthority.com/2012/07/25/de-struise-black-damnation-tasting/)

Black Damnation III Black Mes– 13% ABV.
Black Damnation III was made with Black Albert that aged for 3 months on Paul Melia’s (Mes) favorite Whisky, the “Caol Ila’s Distillers Version 1995”. Pours black with a beautiful brown head that dissipates too quickly. Aromas of scotch whiskey and roasted malts. The flavor suggests the predominate traits of Black Albert here along with the vintage bottle of Scottish whiskey. Thin and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, not too shabby. (http://thebeerauthority.com/2012/07/25/de-struise-black-damnation-tasting/)

Black Damnation IV Coffee Club– 13% ABV.
Black Damnation IV was made with Black Albert that aged for 6 months on very old rum barrels. Pours black with medium thin brown head that lasts decently throughout. Aromas of coffee and light rum. Flavor was really boozy and coffee. Medium to thin mouthfeel. Quite similar to Black Damnation II but more subdued. A quaffable beer nonetheless. Black Damnation V Double Black 26%

Black Damnation XI Special Kay 22%
Eerst mengden we Portsmouth Kate the Great imperial stout met onze Black Albert.
